2013/2014 SPDC Niger Delta Postgraduate Scholarship


The objective of the scheme is to provide an opportunity for qualifying students from the three Niger Delta States to further their education in courses that are relevant to the oil and gas industry.
In the three years of the programme, 30 students have benefited from the opportunity to study at world-renowned institutions.
For the academic year commencing September 2013, SPDC will award up to ten scholarships for one-year post-graduate studies in partnership with three internationally recognised universities in the United Kingdom (UK) – Imperial College London, University College London and the University of Leeds.
The scholarship will cover tuition fees, one return flight ticket from Nigeria to the UK and a contribution towards living expenses only.
The courses that qualify for the scholarship at the three institutions are as follows:
1.) UNIVERSITY OF LEEDS
MSc Exploration Geophysics
MSc Electronic/Electrical Engineering
2.) UNIVERSITY COLLEGE LONDON
MSc Chemical Process Engineering
MSc Mechanical Engineering
MSc Civil Engineering
3.) IMPERIAL COLLEGE OF LONDON
MSc Petroleum Engineering
MSc Petroleum Geoscience
MSc Petroleum Geophysics
MSc Engineering Geology
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must:
Display intellectual ability and leadership potential meet the university’s language requirement (usually at least 6.5 in IELTS)
Be aged between 21-28 years
Be an indigene of Rivers, Delta or Bayelsa States (documentary proof of this will be required) currently reside in Nigeria intend to return and take up permanent residence in Nigeria after completion of the proposed programme of study have obtained a university degree of at least an equivalent standard to a UK Second Class Upper (Honours Degree) not have studied previously in the UK or any other developed country
HOW TO APPLY
Submit application for admission into any of the three universities for any of the qualifying courses
Application forms for the scholarship will be available ONLY through the participating universities, following an offer of admission
Universities will process application and select candidates to attend an interview before being considered for final selection

Rivers State Government Special Overseas Undergraduate Scholarship Programme – 2013/2014


Governor’s Special Overseas Scholarship Programme: 2013/2014 Undergraduate Award
The Rivers State Sustainable Development Agency (RSSDA) invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for selection in the State Government Special Overseas Undergraduate Scholarship Programme for 2013/2014 session.
Available Courses:
  • Engineering (Including Agric Engineering, Architecture)
  • Medical Sciences
  • Economics
  • Computer Related studies
  • Natural Sciences
  • Town/Regional Planning

Who should Apply:

For Rivers Indigenes

Must be of Rivers State Origin (Should submit a copy of LGA identification) Not above 21 years of age. (Confirmation of age preferably by birth certificate) A minimum of five (5) WASCE credits relevant to intended course of study. (NECO not acceptable) Must not be on a degree awarding programme or its equivalent Must submit a copy of LGA identification

For Non Indigenes:

Applications are also welcome from children/wards of taxpaying non indigenes that have been resident in Rivers State for a minimum of 10years. In addition to the credentials mentioned above, 3 years tax clearance certificate and primary school certificate should be submitted alongside the application.

Aptitude Test

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted through SMS, emails or notices posted on www.rssda.org and in all Local Government Council Secretariats Originals of credentials will be sighted during the screening of shortlisted candidates.

2013 NDDC Foreign Scholarship Program



INTRODUCTION

As part of our Human Resource Development initiatives, NDDC is embarking on Foreign Post-Graduate Scholarship Scheme to equip Niger Deltans with relevant training and skills for effective participation in the local content programme of the current administration as well as compete globally in various professional fields. The Scheme is for suitably qualified applicants with relevant Bachelor's/Master's Degree from recognized Universities in the following professional disciplines:
  • Engineering
  • Medicine
  • Computer Science/Technology
  • Geology
  • Geosciences
  • Environmental Sciences
  • Graduate Pilot Training
  • Agriculture
Applicants must have gained Post Graduate admission into a recognized University abroad.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
  • First Degree with minimum of 2nd Class Lower Division for those  wishing to undertake a master’s Degree programme and a good Master’s Degree for PhD candidates from a recognized University.
  • Gained Admission into a Post Graduate Programme in any of the listed disciplines in a foreign University.
  • Bond of good conduct from any of the following persons from the applicant’s community/clan.
  • a. Member of National Assembly
  • b. Chairman of the LGA.
  • c. First class traditional ruler.
  • d. High Court Judge
  • Persons with evidence of cult membership or criminal record shall not be considered for the award.
