Who is eligible to apply?
To qualify for consideration applicants MUST be:
  • Registered FULL TIME undergraduates in Nigerian Tertiary Institutions
  • Certified 100 level students at the time of application.
  • Only indigenes of NAOC host communities in Bayelsa, Delta, Imo and Rivers states SHOULD apply for the Host Communities Merit Award.
  • Only candidates studying Engineering, Geology and Geosciences are eligible for the National Merit Award.
NOTE: The following categories of students should NOT apply:
  • 200 level students and above
  • Current beneficiaries of similar awards from other companies and agencies
  • Dependants of employees of NAOC, AENR and NAE

The Awards are for Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate (PG)  studies.
  
What are the benefits?

2013/2014 Scholarship (Study in Romania)

Number of scholarships: 85 scholarships for under- and post-graduate studies in Romania, by means of selection of application files organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) and the Ministry of Education, Research, Youth and Sports (MECTS), in keeping with Romanian current legislation.

Who can qualify : citizens ofnon EU countries (irrespective of their country of residence). Priority is given to citizens from non EU states with which Romania does not have cultural and education cooperation agreements. Mention should be made that foreign citizens of Romanian origin  and those belonging to the neighbouring historic Romanian communities benefit from other scholarship programmes offered by the Romanian state..
The scholarships are granted for three levels of study:
a) for the first cycle (licenta): This scheme is dedicated to graduates of high schools or of equivalent pre-university systems, as well as to candidates who require the equivalation of  partial studies and the continuation of their studies in Romania. The complete cycle of university studies lasts for 3 to 6 years, according to the specific requirements of the chosen faculty, and ends with a final examination (licenta);

b) for the 2nd cycle (masters): This scheme is dedicated to graduates of university/post graduate studies; it lasts for 1,5 to 2 years and ends with a dissertation;

c) for the 3rd cycle (doctorate) this scheme is dedicated to the graduates of university/postgraduate studies (i.e. master); it lasts for 3-4 years, in keeping with the specific requirements of the chosen faculty, and ends with a doctor’s thesis.

Priority fields: priority will be given to the candidates applying for: political and administrative sciences, education studies, Romanian culture and civilization, journalism, technical studies, oil and gas, agricultural studies, veterinary medicine, architecture, arts. Requests for other fields will also be taken into account.

Language of Study: In order to promote Romanian language and culture, the Ministry of Education, Research, Youth and Sports has decided that the beneficiaries of the scholarships should study only in the Romanian language. The candidates who do not know Romanian are offered one supplementary preparatory year to study the language. The students who declare that they know already Romanian language have to pass a language test organised by the competent  higher education institutions.

NOTE: kindly file your applications with the Romanian Embassy as early as possible in February 2013 or earlier so that they can be registered at MAE DDPCS by the 15th February 2013 deadline date.

About NLNG Scholarship
The Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) group is offering 10 graduate students the chance to study for a Masters qualification at a UK university from September 2014. The NLNG Scholarship, currently administered by the British Council, funds your study and contributes towards your living expenses for the duration of your Masters degree.

  • Applicants should meet the admissions requirements of the university they plan to study at before applying for the scholarship

2013/2014 DAAD Scholarship Programmes (for Nigerians to study in Germany)

DAAD ScholarshipDAAD Scholarship Programmes have benefited hundreds of African students since inception. The scholarship is offered to students from developing countries and is also available for Nigerian Students.
This scholarship is awarded each year to postgraduate students wishing to study for a Master’s or PhD degree. The DAAD scholarships can support students who want to study in their country (In Country Scholarships) or abroad.
DAAD does not sponsor undergraduate studies for Nigerian Students.


Eligibility Requirements and Selection Criteria:
* Bachelor degree first class honours or second class honours upper division (B.A./B.Sc. 2nd class upper division) and M.A./M.Sc.
* At the time of application, generally no more than six years should have passed since the applicant gained the last degree
* 2 field research phases (of altogether 12 months) are possible in your home country
* As a rule, the grant is preceded by a 4 or 6 months lasting language course (selection date is once a year, generally at the end of January).
* German language skills are not expected.
* Age limit: 36 years

The DAAD will reimburse an appropriate flat-rate travel allowance after the applicant’s arrival in Germany. So please observe that the travel expenses have to be financed in advance.

2013 Commonwealth Essay Competition

Each year, the Commonwealth Essay Competition, run by the Royal Commonwealth Society since 1883, inspires thousands of young writers from all over the world. It is the world’s oldest and largest schools’ international writing competition. Past winners include Mr Lee Hsien Loong, the Prime Minister of Singapore and Elspeth Huxley.

If so, the Commonwealth Essay Competition is definitely for you. You are encouraged to be creative in your response to the topics. You can submit a poem, letter, article, story, essay or even a short play. The choice is yours. Just get writing!
The competition is free to enter and in 2012 over 1,000 young writers, from 245 schools, in 38 countries across the Commonwealth received an award for their entry.
For 2013, the Royal Commonwealth Society is delighted to announce that the Competition will be run in partnership with Cambridge University Press, whose support will enable the organisation to engage even more young writers across the Commonwealth.
The Competition celebrates and nurtures the creative talents of young people across the Commonwealth, providing a platform for students to compete with their peers in each of the 54 nations which make up this unique association.

The closing date is 1st May 2013 and results will be announced in the autumn of next year, when a Junior and Senior Prize Winner and Runner Up will be announced and judges will make a number of Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards.

Embassy of France in Nigeria to sponsor five (5) Nigerians abroad annually.


Embassy of France in Nigeria scholarshipThe Embassy of France in Nigeria has initiated a scholarship scheme to sponsor 5 Nigerians abroad every year.
In a statement in Abuja, the French Ambassador to Nigeria Jacques Champagne de Labriolle said the scheme was based on the need to contribute to the training of Nigerians in different fields and the country’s education sector.
The international scholarship scheme which is in collaboration with Total Nigeria Plc, is worth about 54,000 Euros per student.
The statement noted that the Joint Scholarship Scheme (‘TQJS’) titled “Total E &P Nigeria Ltd. (TEPNG) /Quai d’ Orsay” would take effect from the 2012/2013 academic session.
However, the pilot stage of the scheme had commenced last year with one candidate sponsored to study International Law in France.
